For immediate release: July 17, 2005-10 AM Update
The National Hurricane Center is predicting that Hurricane Emily will make landfall Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning in northeastern Mexico, about 80 miles south of South Padre Island.
The situation remains basically the same for South Padre Island. The current forecast would call for tropical storm winds and rain in the 3-6 inch range. Storm surge would be about 2-3 feet above normal.
“We are encouraged by the continuation of these forecast tracks,” said South Padre Island Mayor Robert N. Pinkerton Jr. “As always, residents and visitors should continue to be prepared and monitor the storm for any potential changes.”
Island officials will continue to monitor the storm and will keep area residents informed. People can also monitor from www.townspi.com and then click on the South Padre Island Emergency Management link.
