SPI Issues Mandatory Relocation for Recreational Vehicles
The Town of South Padre Island has issued a mandatory relocation for recreational vehicles on the Island.

RVs are required to leave the Island by midnight today, and they will be denied access to the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway after that time.

Hurricane Emily is still projected to make landfall between 60-70 miles south of South Padre Island in northeastern Mexico.

“We are still looking at tropical storm force winds starting late Tuesday afternoon,” said South Padre Island Mayor Robert N. Pinkerton Jr. “After midnight today, the causeway will be closed to RVs wanting to leave the Island, and to RVs wanting to come onto the Island. This is a mandatory precautionary measure.”

Island officials will continue to monitor the storm’s progress and will remain in close contact with all appropriate local, state and national agencies.
