The Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway has reopened after it was temporarily closed to eastbound traffic.
The causeway will REMAIN OPEN unless the weather deteriorates.
There is NO form of evacuation planned under the current forecast. However, the beaches are CLOSED to all recreational activity due to increased waves.
Sandbags are NO LONGER available.
Island officials will continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Emily and will stay in close contact with all appropriate local, state and national agencies. People can also monitor from www.townspi.com, and then click on the South Padre Island Emergency Management link.
