South Padre Island saw only wind and rain from Hurricane Emily, and today, the weather is a stark contrast.
Rays of sunshine are piercing patchy clouds above the tourist destination.
Hurricane Emily made landfall at about 6 a.m. Wednesday in northeastern Mexico more than 75 miles south of South Padre Island at a Category 3.
There was minor structural damage and sporadic power outages. By 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the clouds were beginning to open themselves up to sunny skies.
“The weather is beautiful now at the Island,” said Mayor Robert N. Pinkerton Jr. “We welcome everyone to our destination.”
