For immediate release: Aug. 18, 2007 (11 a.m.)
Following similar action by Governor Rick Perry, South Padre Island Mayor Robert N. Pinkerton, Jr. has declared a state of emergency for the Town of South Padre Island.
The imminent threat of Hurricane Dean, which will make landfall somewhere along or near the Texas Coast in the upcoming week, has prompted Mayor Pinkerton to implement the Town’s emergency action plan.
The state of emergency will last for no more than seven days, unless it is continued by consent of the Board of Aldermen.
This declaration is also a reminder to residents and visitors to closely monitor changing weather conditions. Hurricane Dean is considered a very dangerous storm.
